Iringa Red Colobus Monkey

Endemic to Udzungwa

This striking red monkey is found only in the Udzungwa Mountains and nearby forests. Critically endangered with fewer than 1,500 individuals remaining.

Key Features:

  • Vibrant reddish-brown fur
  • Black face with white markings
  • Lives in groups of 15-25
  • Feeds on leaves, fruits, and flowers
  • Most active in early morning

Sanje Mangabey

Endemic to Udzungwa

Discovered in 1979, this elusive monkey was unknown to science until recently. It inhabits only two forest blocks within Udzungwa Mountains.

  • Distinctive crest on head
  • White eyelids that flash when alarmed
  • Omnivorous diet
  • Highly social in family groups

💧 Sanje Waterfalls Experience

The Sanje Waterfalls are a series of three cascades that drop a total of 170 meters (560 feet) into the forest below. The hike to the waterfalls is one of the park's most popular activities.
